Looking hard and still not finding it are surprising together, and but shows that surprise.
Join these sentences: The soup was too hot. I waited for five minutes.
Answer: The soup was too hot so I waited for five minutes.
Waiting is what happened because of the hot soup, and so introduces what happened next.
Join these sentences: My sister likes durian. My mother likes durian.
Answer: My sister and my mother like durian.
And joins the two people into one sentence, and two people take like rather than likes.

A question with where puts where first, then is, then what you are asking about.

The goal is the reason for the cheer, so because joins them the right way round.
Join these sentences: I have a red pencil. I have a blue pencil.
Answer: I have a red pencil and a blue pencil.
And joins the two pencils, and saying a twice keeps them as two separate pencils.
