  1. 1248 oranges are packed equally into 8 boxes. How many oranges are in each box?

    Answer: 156

    1248 ÷ 8 = 156.

  2. A hall has 24 rows of 18 seats. 57 seats are empty. How many seats are taken?

    Answer: 375

    24 × 18 = 432 seats, and 432 − 57 = 375 taken.

  3. 500 sweets are packed into bags of 18. How many sweets are left over?

    Answer: 14

    27 × 18 = 486, and 500 − 486 = 14 sweets left over.

  4. A T-shirt costs $12.50. Mr Lee bought 6 of them and paid with a $100 note. How much change did he get?

    Answer: $25.00

    6 × $12.50 = $75.00, and $100.00 − $75.00 = $25.00.

  5. A shop sold 385 cakes on Saturday and 148 more cakes on Sunday than on Saturday. How many cakes did it sell over the two days?

    Answer: 918

    Sunday: 385 + 148 = 533. Two days: 385 + 533 = 918.

  6. A wire 15 m long is cut into 12 equal pieces. How long is each piece?

    Answer: 125 cm

    15 m is 1500 cm, and 1500 ÷ 12 = 125 cm.

  7. A school has 960 pupils. 375 of them are boys. How many more girls than boys are there?

    Answer: 210

    Girls: 960 − 375 = 585. More girls than boys: 585 − 375 = 210.

  8. A factory makes 145 chairs a day. In 7 days, how many more chairs does it need to make to reach 1200?

    Answer: 185

    145 × 7 = 1015 chairs made, and 1200 − 1015 = 185 still needed.

  9. A box of biscuits has a mass of 2 kg 400 g. Each biscuit has a mass of 150 g. How many biscuits are in the box?

    Answer: 16

    2 kg 400 g is 2400 g, and 2400 ÷ 150 = 16 biscuits.

  10. A club had 2350 members. 890 members left and 1275 new members joined. How many members were there then?

    Answer: 2735

    2350 − 890 = 1460, then + 1275 = 2735.
